We are delighted to host the next Bookshop Barnie in Shanghai 2017.
Bookshop Barnies are salon-type discussions that challenge an author to explain their work in front of an invited audience.
The next discussion will be with Rob Schmitz on his latest book “Street of Eternal Happiness: Big City Dreams Along a Shanghai Road“. It is book that explores the stories of the ordinary people he encounters in his Shanghai neighborhood. The South China Morning Post described it as “a microcosm of a teeming city in a country in a hurry, (Schmitz’) fellow residents buying into the officially sanctioned Chinese capitalist dream”.
Rob Schmitz is the Shanghai correspondent for National Public Radio. He has won several awards for his reporting on China, including two national Edward R. Murrow awards and an Education Writers Association award.
Time: 7pm – 8:30pm
Date: 21 April 2017
Venue: The 8 Art Hotel on the Bund Jia No7 Yan’an East Road, Shanghai 200002
FREE but please come prepared to buy a book.. and the author, a drink!
Bookshop Barnies are “alternative book launches” chaired by journalist Austin Williams, that ask authors to present the core ideas of their book – with questions to tease out the central themes – and then it’s out to the audience for Q&A.
